This course is designed to educate Pilates instructors on how to effectively work with students who have scoliosis. It covers the anatomy of scoliosis, diagnostic methods, treatment options, and specific exercises tailored to individuals with scoliosis. The course includes both theoretical and practical components, focusing on exercises using different mat and Pilates equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac and the Chair.
The theoretical aspect of the course delves into the fundamental understanding of scoliosis, starting with its anatomy. Instructors will learn about the various types of scoliosis, including idiopathic, congenital, and neuromuscular, and how these different forms impact spinal alignment and function. Detailed discussions will cover the physiological changes that occur in the spine, ribs, and pelvis due to scoliosis, providing a solid foundation for understanding the condition. We will discuss progression of scoliosis and other treatment methods like surgery and bracing.
The practical component of the course is designed to equip instructors with the skills needed to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This includes learning exercises that are tailored to individuals with scoliosis, with a focus on enhancing spinal alignment, strengthening core muscles, and improving overall body awareness and functionality.
